Welsh hard rock band Budgie were formed in 1968, their debut album being released in 1971. 'Squawk' followed in 1972, but it was their third album 'Never turn Your Back on a Friend' that started the ball rolling in 1973, spawning the rock anthem 'Breadfan' (covered by Metallica) & the superb 'Parents', proving they were more than just another 70's riff-merchant. The band continued to gain fans throughout the 70's despite changing their drummer (twice!), but the biggest change came in 1980, when guitarist Tony Bourge left.
John Hatcher joined the band, & the band became part of the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) of the early eighties.
